Coastal Patrol Vessels

The coastal patrol vessels OOB-31 'Omiš' and OOB-32 'Umag' were built for the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia.

These vessels are 43.16 meters long and are equipped with a remotely controlled weapon station featuring a 30 mm automatic cannon, two manually operated 12.7 mm machine guns, and four portable anti-aircraft missile systems. The weapon station allows remote operation and includes an integrated electro-optical sensor system for autonomous engagement, a stabilized turret, automatic target tracking, and the capability to fire 200 rounds per minute, operating effectively both day and night.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

  • Length | overall 43,16 m
  • Length | on water line 39.11 m
  • Breadth | max 8.00 m
  • Breadth | hull 7.50 m
  • Draft 2,87m
  • Speed 28 knots

The hulls of the patrol vessels are constructed from high-strength AH36 steel, while the superstructure is made of aluminum alloy. Their design ensures unsinkability even in the event of flooding of two adjacent compartments, such as both engine rooms. They are also equipped with a specialized nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) protection system, which includes air filtration and the hermetic sealing of working and living spaces.

At the stern, the vessels feature a ramp with a rigid-hull intervention boat measuring 7.7 meters in length, designed for a crew of six. Powered by a diesel engine, this boat can reach speeds of up to 40 knots and has a cruising range of 60 nautical miles.

Fast intervention boat is equipped with:

  • inboard diesel engine with waterjet propulsion which enables speed up to 40 kN with 6 crew onboard and range of 60 NM
  • LOA: 7,7 m
  • Aluminium hull
  • Jockey seats for 6 crew member
  • Light machine gun mounting possibility
  • Navigational lights and equipment according COLREG 72

Possibility of fast launch/recover up to sea state 3 and ship speed min 5 kN. Stern platform with movable ladder for divers or other people in the sea.

Each vessel has a crew capacity of 17 and an operational endurance of 10 days. They are highly effective in maritime pursuit operations, achieving a maximum speed of 28 knots, powered by two main engines with a total output of 2 × 2525 kW. A key advantage is the optimization of onboard systems, allowing a range of 1000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 15 knots on a single fuel load. The innovative hull design and excellent seakeeping characteristics ensure outstanding fuel efficiency, leading to significant savings compared to similar vessels.

The coastal patrol vessels of the Croatian Coast Guard and Navy 'Omiš' and 'Umag', are equipped with state-of-the-art radar, communication, weapon, and propulsion systems. Thanks to their exceptional seafaring capabilities, they can operate even in conditions that prevent other Croatian governmental vessels from setting sail.

One notable example of their effectiveness occurred in March 2024, when the crew of 'Omiš' successfully transported a critically ill patient from the island of Vis to Split, despite extreme weather conditions, nighttime, and a severe thunderstorm.

The introduction of these patrol vessels into operational service marks the continuation of modernization efforts and the development of new capabilities within the Croatian Coast Guard and Navy. In addition to providing significant references for the Brodosplit shipyard, this project’s primary goal is the revival of Croatia’s military shipbuilding sector.
