The SORTA 2024 Symposium

The SORTA 2024 Symposium was held in Zadar from October 2 to 5, bringing together experts and scientists from the fields of shipbuilding, offshore engineering, maritime affairs, and inland navigation.

This prestigious gathering, held in honor of Professor Leopold Sorta, was organized in collaboration with the University of Zadar, Department of Maritime Studies, and the University of Trieste, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, with the support of the Digital Innovation Center Innovamare from Šibenik.

The significance of this event was further confirmed by the participation of domestic and international experts, which encourages collaboration between academic institutions and industry while emphasizing the importance of maritime affairs and shipbuilding for the future. Brodosplit participated with three presentations:

  • Comparison of mechanized and manual welding for short multi-pass welds (author: Ratko Mimica)
  • Reconstruction of ship parts using reverse engineering methods (author: Ivana Željković)
  • Evaluation of the application of augmented and mixed reality in shipbuilding (author: Ratko Mimica)

The symposium served as a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences through numerous invited lectures, scientific and professional papers, as well as panel discussions and roundtables. Key challenges and innovations in shipbuilding were discussed, with a particular emphasis on the integration of modern technological solutions in the maritime industry. Additionally, special attention was given to sustainability and digital transformation in the context of developing the shipbuilding sector, which is crucial for the economic and scientific advancement of Croatia.
