Brodosplit is Ready to Build European Military Vessels

Published: 13.03.2025.

Brodosplit, a shipyard with extensive experience in constructing military vessels, is naturally interested in such projects. Our expertise in military shipbuilding programs has been demonstrated through the construction of various types of vessels—including submarines and diver propulsion vehicles, as well as landing ships-minelayers Krka and Cetina, and coastal patrol vessels CPV-31 Omiš and CPV-32 Umag. The introduction of these ships into operational use has significantly contributed to the modernization and development of new capabilities for the Croatian Navy.

Thanks to our technical and engineering capacities, Brodosplit has the ability to design and build sophisticated vessels tailored to the needs of the European defense system.

Contributing to European Security

The growing demand for modern coastal and combat vessels opens opportunities for Brodosplit to strengthen European defense capabilities. Our shipyard boasts top-tier infrastructure, highly skilled professionals, and close collaboration with scientific institutions in Croatia. This enables us to design and build advanced military vessels, including submarines.

Although some experts from past submarine projects are no longer active in the shipyard, we firmly believe that with the right support and investment, we could assemble a strong team of engineers and initiate the development of modern submarines, following the example of the former Velebit.

BIS 91 Corvette – A Multi-Purpose Warship

Brodosplit has strategically focused on developing vessels for security and defense purposes and has launched the offshore patrol vessel project – BIS 91 corvette.

The BIS 91 corvette is designed as a multi-purpose warship capable of:

  • artillery fire against surface, aerial, and coastal targets,
  • medium-range air defense,
  • anti-ship and anti-submarine operations,
  • defense against asymmetric threats.

It is equipped with sophisticated weapon systems, including a bow-mounted gun (76 mm or 57 mm), air-defense missiles, long-range anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, and remotely controlled guns and machine guns.

Innovations in Autonomous Vessels

In addition to military vessels, we are developing an innovative autonomous unmanned multi-purpose vessel, which will play a key role in disaster prevention and response, including:

  • marine pollution control,
  • removal of solid waste,
  • firefighting at sea and along the coast.

Submarine Development Potential

Building on our experience in constructing underwater structures, Brodosplit could offer the market modernized versions of the Una-class diver transport submarines, which have previously attracted interest from India and Egypt, as well as R-1 and R-2 diver propulsion vehicles.

Conclusion

Brodosplit’s ability to develop and manufacture advanced vessels reaffirms our competitiveness in the defense shipbuilding sector and opens new opportunities for involvement in European security projects.
